Eastern Carolina Vocational Center Inc. has an opening for Vocational Assessment Specialist/Admissions Coordinator.  This position is responsible for assessing the vocational potential of persons with disabilities and the identification of rehabilitation services needed to maximize that potential. Utilizes situational assessment methods and materials; interviews, and career discussion to determine employment potential of clients.  Services may be delivered either on-site at ECVC as well as in appropriate identified community settings based on the consumer’s needs.  Serves as a back-up to deliver daily services to on-site Day Support and CLFS consumers working in Production positions.

Admissions duties include: facilitating reverse referral applications for walk-ins & scheduled appointments, reviewing referral information, inputting data into 2 computer programs, presenting information to Admissions Committee and communicating decisions of Committee to referral sources and clients. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Complete reverse referral application processes
  • Reviews referral information for compliance with ECVC’s eligibility requirements
  • Communicates decisions of Admissions Committee to referral sources and clients
  • Maintains waiting list for all services
  • Conducts pre-admission meetings
  • Observe client behaviors, record observations and calculate time study results.
  • Analyze medical, psychological, socio-economic, vocational and educational information.
  • Interpret a variety of information to include interests and achievements in conjunction with observed behavior and expressed information.
  • Organize evaluation process by producing a written plan for each client. Ensures plan is implemented and completed during clients’ enrollment.
  • Identify testing needs of individuals for completion.
  • Expand employment, assistive technology and disability related resource information for effective and appropriate service delivery.
  • Identify/develop community opportunities for assessment activities such as job shadowing, job sampling & job trial. 
  • Solicit input and active participation of persons served and relevant family members, employers, school personnel and other community contacts in the assessment process.
  • Maintain continuous communication with client, referral source, and other appropriate individuals regarding client’s progress.
  • Synthesize assessment information and recommend appropriate rehabilitation services.
  • Produce a detail oriented written report summarizing results of evaluation and recommendations for further services for supervisory review/approval.
  • Attends evaluation staffing to discuss results and collaborate with client, referral source, and other regarding future services.
  • Provides individual counseling and instruction to clients as needed to complete their program. 
  • Maintain all paperwork in a timely manner as required.
  • Assure quality vocational evaluation services through compliance with applicable CARF standards.
  • Participate in multi-disciplinary teams and committees internally and externally to serve clients. 

 

Other

  • Serves a back-up for direct supervision and work quality assistance on the Production floor for on-site clients (CLFS, Day Supports in staff absence and for meeting coverage).
  • Coordinates when clients are removed from work floor for rehabilitation purposes.
  • Ensure arrangement of reasonable accommodation of clients’ disabilities on the work floor.
  • Interacts with the public for general information requests about ECVC’s programs/services (in-person and telephone requests).
  • Make referrals to community resources, as appropriate, to assist clients in meeting their total needs.
  • May represent ECVC at public relations activities and training events.

  • Critical Thinking and Reasoning- Apply principles of rational systems to carry out instructions furnished in written or verbal situations.  Regular substantive decisions.  Job content is determined by the incumbent within the bounds of general job objectives.
  • Communication- Ability to understand verbal and/or written work orders and instructions; Write straightforward material such as progress reports, procedures, or nonstandard letters. Read and understand material such as very specialized and technical manuals, laws and regulations, etc. Incidental public contact requires normal courtesy, giving/receiving and explaining information, handling complaints, and interpreting and resolving conflicts.
  • Mathematical Skills- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide. Calculation of percentages, ratios, or averages.
  • Record Keeping- Enter, check, and verify data; track/collect data; compile, summarize, simple computation/complex computation of data; research and verify data; legally required reports for accreditation.
  • Computer Literacy – Basic knowledge of computer and computer programming use; Software used: Microsoft office (Word, Excel), etc.

 

Physical Demands

  • Sedentary work with lifting and/or moving objects up to 10 lbs. occasionally, sitting most of the time.
  • Ability to observe/perform client appropriate job tasks for short period of time. (demonstration) which may have varying physical demands.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with others.
  • Good visual acuity including depth perception, color discrimination, and peripheral vision.
  • Ability to reach, handle, finger.
  • Repetitive use of hands/arms.

 

Work Environment

  • Frequent interruptions.
  • Open space work area. Private areas available by reservation.
  • May handle difficult clients/customers.
  • Frequent travel between locations around town– normal driving hazards.

 

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Rehabilitation or Human Services related field required.
  • Valid Driver’s license with clean driving record to transport clients in company vehicles.
